Are you a Senior Infrastructure Architect with a background in Networking? Do you like to work on large-scale design challenges with the latest technology from AWS? We are looking for an experienced network architect to join our expanding team of Cloud Architects here at Social Security Scotland.

Scottish Government and Social Security Scotland are seeking applications for an experienced Cloud/Infrastructure Architect, as part of a major flagship government programme. This is a unique opportunity to define the cloud infrastructure and the first new public service in Scotland for over fifty years. As an expert in your profession, your skills and decision making will impact the wellbeing of millions throughout Scotland, as you design innovative a cutting-edge infrastructure. Your skills and experience will guide a broad cross-section of digital professionals and experts, as part of a high performing team of over 200. This role presents an unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in investing in and designing market-leading solutions. Reporting into the Lead Cloud Architect, you will be responsible for taking infrastructure design patterns/low-level designs and working collaboratively to deliver a robust infrastructure.

We are looking for a Cloud/Infrastructure Network Architect who enjoys working in a broad, varied role with lots of business exposure. You will have strong visibility across the entire company and work very cross-functionally, therefore excellent communication and relationship building are a must. This is an exciting time to join and you will utilise leading edge tools along the way both to create new platforms and ensure continuous enhancements of a Scotland and UK first.

Candidates should be knowledgeable and have hands-on experience with network concepts including routing, peering, VPNs and more. Experience working across various domains, developers, managers, and executives is required as is the ability to demonstrate and explain complex solutions. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of AWS services with other architects and specialists in security and engineering.

Main Duties

The Cloud Architect will be part of a feature team responsible for the delivery of AWS infrastructure design components and environments which will be delivered by Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Main duties include:

  • Design effective cloud first solutions and networks that support cutting-edge service design.
  • Demonstrate your ability to influence and work collaboratively across a broad matrix of specialists and experts.
  • Articulately present designs and solutions at the highest level and in a compelling manner.
  • Work closely with security colleagues to define highly available, resilient, scalable and fault tolerant end-to-end solution architecture.
  • Work with a diverse supplier landscape to select and maximise the value of cutting-edge technology, as well as the latest policies and principles.
  • Lead the conversation on network architecture and work with security colleagues to ensure
  • Network and collaborate externally with likeminded professionals as a representative of the organisation.
  • Utilise public cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure to hosts and enable line of business applications and services.
