Overview

Are you an experienced senior architect or existing Chief Architect looking for a once in a career lifetime opportunity to be part of the digital delivery of Social Security benefits to the people of Scotland? Do you want to work in a vibrant and fast paced digital division of nearly 400 colleagues with exposure to the latest tools and technologies?

We are looking for a Chief Architect to be part of the Chief Digital Office Senior Management Team and lead a practice of nearly 40 architects, to evolve the maturing architecture for Social Security Scotland.

Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer for Social Security, the post holder will be the Chief Architect for the Digital and Technology elements of Social Security Scotland taking the lead on architecture principles, standards, and enterprise integration across a range of technologies and solutions. You will be a member of the Scottish Government’s ICT Profession and will expected to share knowledge and collaborate with your peers across the Scottish public sector, seeking to embrace new technology trends and approaches to cloud technologies.

You will be responsible for the management of number of solution, data, and integration architects already in the organisation, some permanent, some interim, and your focus will be on developing and expanding our permanent internal architecture capability and reducing the dependency on interim resources at the earliest opportunity.

Main Duties

As Lead Technical Architect you will be responsible for the management of number of solution, data, and integration architects already in the organisation, some permanent, some interim, and your focus will be on developing and expanding our internal permanent architecture capability and reducing the dependency on interim resources at the earliest opportunity.

As a certified architect in either TOGAF or similar methodology you will be experienced in enterprise architecture and able to converse across a range of technologies and solutions.

Additional Duties:

• Line management of a number of seniorC2 architects (solution, technical, data)
• Responsible for ensuring the completeness of the end-to-end Scottish Government Social Security architecture.
• Operate as the overall senior architect for Social Security, interpreting the business vision and requirements, ensuring the integrity of architecture across the enterprise.
• Member of the Chief Digital Office senior management team.
• Take ownership and reviewof the existing technical architecture, assess its long term viability and develop a strategy for the maintenance and development of all architecture documentation.
• Participate in key governance processes that control decisions impacting the architecture and provide constructive challenge where applicable.
• Identify and develop quality attributes appropriate to Social Security components (such as performance, security, resilience, usability, accessibility & compatibility) specifically to promote and support re-use.
• Ensure alignment with current digital standards for all architecture designs and patterns across the programme and new agency.
• With a focus on both solution and component reuse, identify architecture components that can be developed further and shared across the wider public sector in Scotland.
• Assess and validate all integration components across the architecture with a constant focus on sustainability and skills required within the division.
• Manage and collaborate with, external suppliers to ensure that their system architecture meet our requirements, including overall system design, integration points/APIs.
