Scottish social security payment dates over the festive period

Some payment dates for benefits administered by Social Security Scotland may be different over Christmas and New Year due to bank holiday dates.

This means that some benefit payments will be made earlier than usual in December and January.

If the expected payment date is between 24 December and 6 January, people will receive a text message closer to the time advising them of when they will receive their payment.

Bank holiday dates for the 2022/2023 festive period are:

  • Monday 26 December
  • Tuesday 27 December (replacement Christmas Day bank holiday)
  • Monday 2 January (replacement New Year’s Day holiday)
  • Tuesday 3 January (2 January replacement holiday)

Due to postal strikes some people may receive a payment into their bank account before getting a letter.

Payments that are due to be paid over this festive period and when people can expect to receive them are as follows.

Expected payment date Actual payment date
Saturday 24 December to Wednesday 28 December Friday 23 December
Thursday 29 December Thursday 29 December*
Friday 30 December to Monday 2 January Friday 30 December*
Expected payment date Actual payment date
Tuesday 3 January Tuesday 3 January*
Wednesday 4 January Wednesday 4 January*
Thursday 5 January Thursday 5 January*
Friday 6 January Thursday 5 January

*Some payments will be made earlier. Text messages advising clients of payment dates will be sent nearer the time.
