Within the assessment criteria, the ability to perform an activity unaided means without either the use of aids or appliances and without prompting, supervision or assistance.

The distance from the eyes to the written material to be read is not relevant. Some individuals hold text closer to their eyes than others, but if it can be read without aids, then this descriptor will apply.
