Carer Support Payment – Stakeholder Event - 11 September

Carer Support Payment will be available in all areas of Scotland from November 2024.

This new benefit launched in the pilot areas of Dundee City, Perth & Kinross and the Western Isles on 20 November 2023.

  • Angus, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire – 24 June
  • Fife, Moray, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, North Ayrshire – 19 August

We are now welcoming stakeholders from the remaining areas, or those who were unable to attend our previous events, to sign up for one our free online information session on this new benefit.

Who is this event for?

Stakeholders in Scotland who support carers, their families and the people they care for. This includes carer support organisations and others that will advise and support people to apply for Carer Support Payment, which is replacing Carer’s Allowance in Scotland. For example; Welfare Rights Advisors, Benefit Advisors, Health and Social Care Staff. It would also be beneficial for those who work in policy, learning and development and communications teams.

Purpose of this event:

Social Security Scotland wants to make sure you and the people you support have all the relevant information you need about Carer Support Payment before it opens for new applications in your area. This will include how it will be different from Carer’s Allowance and how the service will be delivered in Scotland by Social Security Scotland.

You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have from the people who have designed the Carer Support Payment service, including policy colleagues in the Scottish Government. You will also be provided with a range of stakeholder resources to help you inform your network about Carer Support Payment and help us to promote the take up of this benefit to eligible people.

This event will include a general overview of Carer Support Payment and how it will be delivered including the following information:

  • The policy, eligibility criteria, and benefit rules
  • The application process, including channels and support available
  • How we will make determinations and payments
  • How we will communicate with our clients
  • Reporting a change of circumstances
  • Interactions with other benefits
  • Re-determinations and appeals
  • Signposting to further information including stakeholder toolkit and resources
