Scottish Apprenticeship Week

Last week was Modern Apprenticeship week and the Cabinet Secretary for Social Security, Shirley Anne Somerville, had a great session with Modern Apprentices past and present from across the wider Social Security Directorate, including a number of apprentices from Social Security Scotland.
The Scottish Government has a real commitment to recruiting a diverse workforce and creating new and genuine career opportunities. A number of initiatives have been undertaken in pursuit of these goals across the Social Security Directorate, one being the adoption of the Scottish Government Modern Apprenticeship programme.
The Cabinet Secretary had a chance to hear about what it is like to be a Modern Apprentice in the fast-moving environment that we work in and the challenges and opportunities that this brings.
The Social Security Scotland team also attended Skills Development Scotland’s event at Dundee Careers Centre where young people were encouraged to apply for an apprenticeship with Social Security Scotland.
Social Security Scotland currently employs a number of Modern Apprentices who are based across a wide range of roles, including Finance, Operations, Client Experience, Recruitment, Learning and Development and National Engagement
Recruitment for further Modern Apprentices is now underway in Dundee and Glasgow.
