Response

Social Security Scotland’s mailroom operation sits within the Client Services Delivery division who hold the budget for all mail services. Therefore, all costs associated with providing mail service for the Agency, predominately to our clients, is managed through this division.

The costs detailed in Social Security Scotland - Transactions over £25,000 - September 2024 cover some of the services provided by Royal Mail including the production of application forms and client notifications; bulk mailings; and the delivery and collection of mail to and from Social Security Scotland mailrooms.

Costs are demand led and can fluctuate, for example, with new benefit launches or seasonal payments but the payments in September 2024 are broadly comparable to other months.
