Carer’s Allowance Supplement was received by carers across Scotland on Friday 9 December. This is a payment of £245 from the Scottish Government, paid through Social Security Scotland, in recognition of the important contribution of unpaid carers in Scotland.

This was paid automatically to people who were receiving Carer’s Allowance from the Department for Work and Pensions on 10 October. This follows the April payment when 81,680 carers received the supplement.

One parent who received the payment said:

“It’s a good feeling to look in the bank and see a few hundred pounds extra at this time of year. It’s always an expensive time and thanks to the extra money I don’t need to worry so much about buying gifts or even going on a Christmas night out and having a bit of time to enjoy myself.”

People should check if they received the payment and get in touch with us if they have not yet got the payment by calling us free on 0800 182 2222.
