Eligibility Date for Carer’s Allowance Supplement in December

The eligibility date to receive the next Carer’s Allowance Supplement in Scotland will be 11 October 2021 and eligible carers will receive their supplement of £231.40 this December.

Subject to parliamentary approval, there will also be an additional payment in December, to provide extra support to carers during the Covid-19 crisis.

The Carer’s Allowance Supplement is an extra payment for people in Scotland who are already in receipt of Carer's Allowance paid through the DWP. Those in receipt of Carer’s Allowance on the qualifying dates will receive Carer’s Allowance Supplement. Two dates per year are chosen as the supplement is paid as a six month sum. The next qualifying date is 11 October 2021.

Carers in receipt of Carer’s Allowance do not need to make an application for the supplement – it is paid automatically and we will write to people in advance so they know to expect a payment.

Clients who receive only the Carer Element of Universal Credit will not receive the Carer's Allowance Supplement. It is possible for carers to receive Carer’s Allowance, and Universal Credit including the Carer Element.

Carers are advised to consider their personal circumstances to make an informed decision on whether to make an application for Carer’s Allowance and advice is available from Citizens Advice Scotland or by contacting Local Authority welfare advisors.

You can find details of your local Citizens Advice Bureau by visiting the Citizens Advice Scotland website at www.cas.org.uk. You can contact your Local Authority’s Welfare Rights and Debt Advice team by visiting your relevant Local Authority website.
