Funeral Support Payment pays £8.7 million to clients in its first year

We have paid £8.7 million in the first year of Funeral Support Payment, according to the latest figures published today.

Almost 6,000 people who have lost a loved one received a payment in its first full year. The average payment was £1,761 to help with the costs of a burial or cremation and expenses such as travel and flowers.

The majority of payments were made directly to funeral directors at the request of the client.

Funeral Support Payment replaced the UK Government’s Funeral Expense Payment in Scotland.

People can check eligibility and apply for Funeral Support Payment on mygov.scot or by calling us on 0800 182 2222.
