Recruitment campaign wins Best Diversity and Inclusion award

As part of our partnership with Modular People Solutions, we won Best Diversity & Inclusion Award at the 2023 s1jobs Recruitment Awards.

We have been working hard to promote greater diversity and inclusion across all our recruitment strategies.

Our work with Modular People Solutions saw us make over 2,400 offers of employment between December 2021 and October 2022. Of the employment offers we made, 13% were to candidates who identified as having a disability and 8.5% were made to people from minority ethnic backgrounds.

To encourage applications from the widest pool of talent, all of our recruitment marketing materials were user-tested for accessibility with targeted communications placed on social media, job advertisements found on local bus routes and heard on radio stations.

Applicants could apply for our jobs online, via a hard copy of the application form or in braille. Colleagues involved in this project also underwent diversity and inclusion training to assess candidates at application and video interview stage. The new pre-recorded video interview system in total managed 7,500 remote interviews which allowed greater flexibility to candidates and interview panels.

We have also been working closely with Inclusion Scotland, Fair Start Scotland, and Dundee City Council’s local employability partner Discover Work Partnership to facilitate recruitment and inclusivity within our organisation. We have employed more than 40 people through these schemes. A new partnership with Clyde Gateway was also established to bring three candidates from their Family Support Work Programme which helps tackle child poverty and support local families.

Last year we met our Young Person’s Guarantee commitment of recruiting over 40 Modern Apprentices under the age of 25. We are also a proud member of the Disability Confident Scheme and achieved Level 2 status as a Disability Confident Employer.

Alastair MacPhail, Deputy Director, Strategy, Change, Data & Engagement:

“This award recognises our approach to breaking down barriers to employment across our recruitment initiatives and creating a candidate experience accessible to all, allowing us to recruit a workforce reflective of the Scottish population we serve.

“I am pleased we have been recognised for being a truly welcoming employer and an inclusive place to work and appreciate all of the hard work by our resourcing team to meet our commitments to treat everyone with dignity, fairness and respect.”
