Social Security Scotland turns two

This week marks the second birthday of Social Security Scotland.

We were formally established as an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government on 1 September 2018.

The latest official figures show that on 31 March we employed 647 full time equivalent staff.

We are currently delivering eight benefits, providing payments for carers, families on certain benefits and tax credits, money for young people moving into work and to help people pay for funerals.

Since we launched Social Security Scotland up until the end of March this year we have paid over £100 million in benefits to our clients.

The Scottish Government is developing further benefits that we will deliver. We will continue to grow as we prepare for their introduction and as we start to take more on.

Our third year will be a big one for us as larger and more complex benefits are launched. This includes the introduction of Scottish Child Payment and our first disability assistance, Child Winter Heating Assistance.
