Creating greener workspaces

Our offices in Dundee and Glasgow have had an extra sparkle recently thanks to a new cleaning method which is making us clean and green.

Clean Zero is an environmentally friendly new way of cleaning which uses filtered water rather than chemical-based cleaning solutions.

No electricity is required during its production and Clean Zero machines are kept on site in our Agnes Husband House and High Street offices, removing carbon emissions, single-use plastics and cardboard.

Clean Zero has been introduced by our facilities management provider, Mitie Facilities Management and we have adopted it as part of our commitment to the Scottish Government’s transition to a Net Zero economy and society by 2045.

It’s a prime example of how our Procurement colleagues consider how our contracts and services can improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of Scotland.

Natalie McCrindle, Head of Procurement and Commercial, said:

“We actively work with our Place Services Team to support environmental sustainability and ensure that the goods and services we purchase reduce our emissions and are an efficient use of resources.

“The implementation of Clean Zero has led to cleaning efficiencies and savings and there has been positive feedback from cleaners and colleagues in relation to increased cleanliness.”

Clean Zero filters out chlorine, natural minerals, grit and calcium before using a process to purify the water and enable it to absorb dirt and contamination.

Jackie Macfarlane, Senior Operations Manager at Mitie, said:

“In 27 years of cleaning never once would I have thought I could use water. I had heard about it and thought there was no way it could work but it has blown my socks off. It’s been brilliant.

“Social Security Scotland adopted it first and it is now being rolled out in other Scottish Government buildings.”
