Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance is replacing Disability Living Allowance in Scotland
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults, which is paid by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), is being replaced by Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance (Scottish Adult DLA) in Scotland.
Anyone who is still getting Disability Living Allowance for adults from the Department for Work and Pensions and has not received a letter to say their benefit is transferring to Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance should get in touch with us.
Scottish Adult DLA provides financial assistance to help meet the additional costs of living with a disability or health condition(s).
The benefit is not open for new applications. It was designed to ensure the safe and secure transfer of adults born on or before 8 April 1948 receiving DLA from Department for Work and Pensions to Social Security Scotland.
The move to Scottish Adult DLA will happen automatically.
Scottish Adult DLA is paid by Social Security Scotland. Everyone in Scotland who is getting DLA for adults should now either:
- have had their benefit award transferred to Scottish Adult DLA
- or have received a letter from us telling them that their transfer is in progress
People should continue to report any change of circumstances to the Department for Work and Pensions until their benefit has fully transferred to Social Security Scotland. We will send a letter to clients telling them when their transfer has been completed.
It will take until the end of 2025 to move everyone’s benefit to Scottish Adult DLA. Everyone will continue to receive their payments in the right amount and there will be no gap in entitlement. Some clients may receive their payment one working day later than when they were paid Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults. We will write to clients in advance to let them know if this is the case.
