Job Start Payment is a one-off payment of £319.80 (or £511.65 if you are the parent or main carer of a child)

It helps with the costs of starting a new job if you have been out of work and getting benefits. You can apply if you

  • are aged between 16 and 24 (or 16 and 25 if you are a care-leaver)
  • have been offered paid employment and expect to work more than 12 hours per week
  • have been out of work and getting a qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit for 6 months (care-leavers only need to have been getting a benefit on the day they were offered the job)
