Freedom of Information and Publication Scheme

Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 gives you the right to access information held by us. The Act sets out what is not covered and also what we have to publish.

From 1 January 2005, people have had the right to request information and be told whether the organisation holds that information. People also have the right to be supplied with this information, although, in some cases organisations don’t need to provide this information.

The Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 also give you the right to ask us for environmental information.

Anyone can request information. There are no restrictions on your age, nationality or where you live.

Our approach to Freedom of Information is based on the Scottish Government’s 6 principles of Freedom of Information. We will regularly publish information and our responses to Freedom of Information requests on our website.

Publication Scheme

We maintain a Publication Scheme that sets out the types of information available, how we plan on publishing the information, and if there will be a charge for the information. The purpose of a Publication Scheme is to ensure information is available, without the need for a specific request. As an organisation we aim to publish more information pro-actively and to develop an open culture.

We've adopted the Model Publication Scheme developed and approved by the Scottish Information Commissioner.

We have produced a Guide To Information that sets out the types of information available, how we plan on publishing the information, and if there will be a charge for the information. The purpose of the Guide To Information is to ensure information is available, without the need for a specific request. As an organisation we aim to publish more information pro-actively and to develop an open culture.

We’re committed to delivering an open and transparent service whenever possible and it is our intention to include within our Publication Scheme information that we believe would be of interest to the public.
