Background to Carer Additional Person Payment

Carer Additional Person Payment is a recognition payment of £10 for carers (2025-2026 rate) per week for each extra person they care for.

• The carer must be getting paid Carer Support Payment for a different cared for person
• The carer must be providing regular and substantial care for each additional cared for person for 20 hours or more (The Carer’s Assistance (Miscellaneous and Consequential Amendments, Revocation, Transitional and Saving Provisions) (Scotland) Regulations 2025, regulation 14B (3)) a week
• Each cared for person must receive a qualifying disability benefit
• There is no limit on the number of Carer Additional Person Payment awards each carer can receive and caring hours for the cared for people can be provided concurrently (The Carer’s Assistance (Miscellaneous and Consequential Amendments, Revocation, Transitional and Saving Provisions) (Scotland) Regulations 2025, regulation 14B (5))
• No other carer can be awarded Carer Additional Person Payment for the same cared for person
