How to make an application
Applications for Carer Support from 15 March 2026 can be made:
- via the online portal
- with a client adviser by phone
- face-to-face with a member of Social Security Scotland’s Local Delivery team
- by posting a paper application form.
The application will be called a ‘Carer Support Payment’ application.
An individual can contact Social Security Scotland using whatever channel they are comfortable with, to seek advice or help with their application.
Social Security Scotland’s Local Delivery team are available to help individuals to make an application either:
- face-to-face in local delivery offices
- remotely by telephone.
Guidance on completing applications will be available:
- on the Social Security Scotland website
- on leaflets and on the application forms
- via support organisations such as Citizens Advice Scotland
