Payment cycles
The first payment of Carer Support Payment will be made on the date set out in the determination notice. Case transfer clients will generally keep the same payment frequency of Carer Support Payment as they had for Carer’s Allowance. This means:
- where a client received Carer’s Allowance weekly in advance, they will continue to get their Carer Support Payment weekly in advance
- where a client received their Carer’s Allowance in 4 weekly payments, they will continue to get their Carer Support Payment 4 weekly
Where a client received their Carer’s Allowance three weeks in arrears and one week in advance, they will instead receive their Carer Support Payment 4 weekly in arrears. Due to different payment frequencies available between the Department for Work and Pensions and Social Security Scotland, these clients will have a five week gap between their final Carer’s Allowance payment and their first Carer Support Payment. These clients will be able to request to change their payment frequency to weekly in advance within the case transfer window.
Where the case manager considers that it would be unjust not to do so, payment schedules for these individuals may be set at any frequency. This will be set out in the determination notice (Schedule 1, Part 2, regulation 7).
